Brief Summary: The Medford Youth Action Team is a new collaboration between Medford Public Schools and the City of Medford Health Department. The Medford Youth Action Team’s role is to engage their peers in making positive, healthy decisions and to create a positive, inclusive school environment. The focus of the group will be on promoting positive decision-making related to substance use prevention, mental health support, healthy relationships, and other health related topics. The Youth Action Team will also focus on fostering a sense of connection amongst students and faculty.

Brief Summary: The purpose of the Art Club is to have more time for fun and creativity. Art Club will be working with a variety of media this year. Art Club projects may involve paint and other supplies that can stain clothes, so you may want something like an apron or a smock. A baggy old T-shirt will work just fine.

Brief Summary: The Book Club will meet twice a month in the library. Together, we will choose books that reflect the interests of our members. During our meetings, we will read and discuss the selected book through group conversations. We will also compare and contrast different books, exploring the development and relationships of the characters within them.

Brief Summary: The mission of the Center for Citizenship and Social Responsibility (CCSR) is to provide instructional resources, activities, coordination, and training to support our mission of developing responsible global citizens who will be positive contributors to society. The Center collaborates with teachers, administrators, students, and community members to create a system-wide plan that integrates social-emotional learning, financial literacy, citizenship, career awareness, resilience, and social intelligence into the district's curriculum and activities. Our center is a place that allows students to learn beyond the core curriculum and take on issues that surround them and their communities every day. They will work to act with integrity, respect, and responsibility, while learning how to self-manage and become self-aware.

Brief Summary: In this club we will embrace diversity, develop empathy, and foster a sense of inclusivity within the classroom, home, and the wider world with these simple ideas. Much like teaching tolerance and values to young children, learning about diversity is not something that can be achieved in a single lesson or a week of planned activities. Rather, many of the types of activities can be ongoing or visited weekly, such as reading a diverse story or learning a new phrase in a different language each week. Learning about diversity in early childhood involves more than just exposing kids to different cultures; it also includes appreciating and accepting differences in religion, age, gender, identity, sexual orientation, ability, education, ethnicity, and origin. Activities: We will celebrate differences, learn about other cultures, practice foreign languages, cook, play music, dance, play games, do arts and crafts, and more.

The Drama Club finishes in the spring with a culmination of a school play/musical. Students work as a team in all aspects of a production. It’s a great show and all are welcome.

Brief Summary: Do you enjoy knitting, felting, crocheting, weaving, sewing, or making friendship bracelets? Would you like to learn how? This club is for anyone who wants to relax, socialize with friends, and work on various fiber arts projects. All students, regardless of experience level, are welcome!

Brief Summary: Future City is an educational, cross-curricular engineering experience that culminates in a statewide competition. Using the Engineering Design Process (EDP) and project management skills, students showcase their solutions to a citywide sustainability issue. This year's theme is Farm to Table.

GSA is a group of people who want to help build a community that supports LGBTQ+ students in Medford Public School. We will share expereinces, have fun, and work together to make our school a more inclusive, safe space for all.

Brief Summary: Students will explore STEM-related topics through engaging activities, including ice cream making, slime making, and strawberry DNA extractions. By engaging in these activities, students will have the opportunity to experience STEM beyond the classroom setting. This will culminate in a chance to present and learn from professors at Tufts University.

Brief Summary: Math Counts is a middle school mathematics competition/club program. The Math Counts club (through its meetings and optional participation in the competition) helps build the critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary for our students’ future success. Each week, students will work through practice problems collaboratively with their fellow club members. These practice problems provide students with the opportunity to examine real-life issues where mathematics is applicable. All students in grades 6-8 are welcome to participate.

Brief Summary: The goal of Movie Club is for students to acquire and develop an understanding of the art and history of film. Movie Club introduces students to the fundamental elements of film artistry and production. Students will view, reflect on, and learn about the cinema they are most likely to have not seen. The American Film Institute and the National Film Registry recognize many of the films being viewed. Through Movie Club, students are provided the opportunity to be part of something fun, creative, and sociable while enhancing their analysis skills to better understand film and filmmakers' intentions. New movies are shown every couple of weeks, so students don’t need to attend every week if they’re not interested in the current movie.

Brief Summary: The National Junior Honor Society comprises a group of eighth-grade students who have consistently maintained superior grades throughout their middle school experience. In addition to maintaining high grades, members must also display leadership, citizenship, and character. The last requirement is service. Eighth-grade students are expected to contribute 10 hours of community service to the school. Students will participate in events throughout the school year, such as: curriculum night, Thanksgiving drive, bingo night, and open house. Students in the NJHS will raise funds and awareness for various foundations including, but not limited to the National Epilepsy Foundation, American Heart Association, and cancer foundations. NJHS candidates will be chosen in seventh grade and inducted at the end of the school year.

Brief Summary: The Outing and Environmental Club enables students to learn about our local ecosystems, develop outdoor hiking skills, and cultivate a sense of environmental stewardship. During club meetings, students learn about topics related to nature and the environment. They also plan and sign up for weekend hikes to chosen locations such as the Middlesex Fells, Drumlin Farm, and Blue Hills Reservation.
