Superintendent's Weekly Memo - September 13, 2024
Dear Mustang Families,
The first five-day week of the school year has been completed and students are settling nicely into their school routines! Between school events such as the start of school curriculum nights and the home opener for our high school football team, it was tremendous seeing our community come together. While our football team may have come up short last night, thank you to all those who attended and cheered on our players, coaches, cheerleaders, band students, and color guard.
Throughout this week, Medford celebrated National Arts in Education Week! Our robust arts program, encompassing all facets of performing and visual arts, encourages students to express their creativity and let their personalities shine through their work.
As we have settled into the year, all art and music classes in Grades K–12 are in full swing. The marching band made its debut at last night’s football game. All fourth grade students received a band and orchestra demonstration this week as sign-ups for the instrumental programs are now open. Additionally, auditions were held for the drama club's fall play. They will be performing an adaptation of “Almost, Maine.”
Sunday marks the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) takes place September 15 to October 15 every year in recognition and celebration of the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latino community. HHM is celebrated nationwide through festivals, art shows, conferences, community gatherings, and much more. At Medford Public Schools, we are proud to embrace all of our linguistic, ethnic, racial, ability, gender, cultural and religious diversity.

Medford CCSR Invites Students To Join
The Medford CCSR (Center for Citizenship and Social Responsibility) is an excellent opportunity for students to get involved in the community through student-led projects in whatever subject they're passionate about! The CCSR works on various community projects throughout the year, empowering students and teaching the importance of collaboration and civic responsibility. Recent projects include providing safety whistles to all mail carriers in Medford, the EL Give Back program and raising money for local animal shelters.
The CCSR is holding its first teen river cleanup of the year on Sunday at MacDonald Park! This is a terrific chance to enjoy the weather with friends, clean our environment, and earn community service hours. Visit Here for more details and to RSVP.
With over 400 current students, the Medford CCSR is open to students of all ages. Contact CCSR Director Richard Trotta to join the program.
Half-Day Dismissal & School Meals
Wednesday, Sept. 18, is the first half day of the school year. Middle schools will be released at 11:30 a.m., and all other schools will be released at 12:00 p.m. Similar to last year, the district will be providing students with a cold food option on half days this year. Visit Here to view the school breakfast and lunch menu.
Food will be provided during a snack time frame at the elementary schools and after dismissal at the middle and high schools. The cafeteria will be open for students to sit and eat. Students will be asked to sign up in the morning so kitchen staff can prepare the appropriate number of meals.
Elementary students who prefer an alternative are welcome to bring in an allergy-friendly and healthy snack to school.
Run Medford Run
Run Medford Run returns to our Medford community at the end of the month, with the Kids Fun Run & the High School Mile being held on Friday, Sept. 27 at Hormel Stadium. The Kids Fun Run, starting at 5:15 p.m. is open to all children 12 years old or younger, while the High School Mile begins at 6:15 p.m. 50% of proceeds from the two races will be donated to our schools!
