MPS Special Education Feedback Survey & Retirement Announcement

MPS Special Education Feedback Survey & Retirement Announcement

Dear MPS Parents/Caregivers.

After 33 years of dedicated service to the Medford school community, I am writing to share that I will be retiring on September 14, 2026.

When I began my career in Medford in 1992 at the Hillside Alternative School, I could not have imagined the professional and personal journey that lay ahead. I had the privilege of serving as a classroom educator, administrator, and eventual Director of Student Services, roles that allowed me to grow alongside our students and staff. Medford has been far more than a workplace; it has been a community and a second home.

One of the greatest strengths of our schools will always be the partnership between families and educators. The support and advocacy for our children shapes the strong educational commitment that defines our district. For over three decades, we have worked together to ensure that every student is supported, heard and feels a true sense of belonging.

Before the process gets underway for my successor, please take a moment to fill out this feedback survey on our current MPS Special Education programming. Even though submissions are anonymous, this community feedback will support the district’s search process set to begin later this spring.

In closing, while I look forward to my next chapter, I am filled with gratitude for your trust placed in me and our schools. Thank you for your partnership, your support, and the opportunity to be a member of this remarkable Medford community for over 33 years. It has been a privilege to serve your families and be part of so many important moments in your children’s lives.

With sincere appreciation,

Joan Bowen

Director of Student Services
