Annual Middle School Ethics Bowl
We are happy to announce that last Saturday, April 5th, a joint delegation from the Andrews and McGlynn Middle Schools participated in the annual Middle School Ethics Bowl at Harvard University. They were led by the Ethics Bowl advisor, Mr. Scott Sumrall and Miss Alexandra Chang. There were over eighty students from various schools from as far away as Rhode Island and New York in attendance. Students were placed on one of twelve teams which competed with each other in an intense but collaborative manner for several hours.
In the end, the team that emerged with the most round wins and the most judges' decisions was Team 3, a team of six or seven students, three of whom were from our Medford delegation! Our students were therefore crowned with the customary ivy wreaths of the Ethics Bowl. Moreover, all of our participants pushed themselves to overcome many challenges related to public speaking and collaborative team work that would have been daunting even for adults, let alone middle school students.
We are incredibly proud of our Medford students and the grace, dignity, perseverance, and honor they displayed at this event. They have brought great pride and distinction to our district.
